What appears on the dashboard, what it asks a new organisation, and what it never says about your equipment
The dashboard answers one question: what needs somebody now.
KitNDocs works this out when you open the page. It does not save a dashboard list, so nothing there goes stale.
What appears on the dashboard
Out of service shows equipment that must not be used. Each piece of equipment appears as one row. When more than one thing holds it, the row lists each reason on its own line.
Reasons include a missing first certificate, an open issue, a defect, an overdue task that takes equipment out of service, completed work that waits for a certificate, installed equipment that is out of service, and installed equipment that changed since the last certificate.
New equipment starts here because it begins out of service. The row links to the work that must happen before the first certificate. When more than one reason holds the equipment, the row opens the Service status tab, which lists them all. Taking equipment out of service explains the full rule.
Coming up shows tasks due soon. A date limit counts down in days. A usage limit counts down in its own unit, such as jumps or hours. KitNDocs does not turn a usage count into a date.
A deferred defect can also appear here. Its row says when the equipment will go out of service. The reading half of a deferral is shown to the person who records the reading.
Overdue shows late tasks that do not take equipment out of service. They stay here until somebody records them done or cancels them.
Not back shows equipment that is past the day it was due back. Each row gives the day it was due and how many days ago that was. The row opens the Custody tab of that record.
This heading sits below the work. Equipment that is late back can still be in service and in date, so KitNDocs keeps the two apart. Custody of equipment explains the rule.
What a new organisation sees
The dashboard asks a new organisation for two things.
Confirm your timezone. KitNDocs reads dates in your organisation's timezone. Check the suggested timezone before you save it, because the browser may be in the wrong place.
Record your first piece of equipment. KitNDocs cannot find work until you have equipment records. New equipment stays out of service until somebody certifies it as serviceable.
What the dashboard does not do
The dashboard shows what is open now. It is not a history of what has been cleared.
The dashboard changes almost nothing. You can save your timezone from it. You cannot choose your organisation's sport, record a reading, raise an issue, complete a task or certify equipment from it.
An empty dashboard does not certify equipment as serviceable. It only says KitNDocs found nothing open.
