What a model is

A model is the kind of thing, not the one object you hold.

Gin Bolero 5 is a model. The wing in your gear bag is equipment, and it names that model.

Not all equipment names a model. A camera pole, a windsock or a shed radio has no manufacturer and no part number. You record that equipment under its category. See Recording equipment with no model.

The model holds facts that are true for each one: manufacturer, part number, size and category. Your equipment holds facts about the one object: marking, serial number and work done.

Each size is a separate model, because each size has its own part number. The catalogue groups those sizes on one row.

What the model page does not show

The model page shows no maintenance dates. Dates and tasks belong to equipment, not to models.

Two pieces of equipment with the same model can be due on different days. Open the equipment record to see its tasks.

Service bulletins and specifications

The Service bulletins link goes to the manufacturer's site. KitNDocs does not hold the bulletins and does not decide which ones apply.

Some models show a specification from the manufacturer's datasheet. These facts are there to read only. They do not create reminders and they do not take equipment out of service.

A model without a specification is normal. If a shared specification is wrong, tell us.

Shared catalogue and yours

Each model and manufacturer is either Shared catalogue or Yours.

Shared catalogue means KitNDocs wrote the entry and all operators can use it.

Yours means somebody in your organisation added it. Only your organisation can see it.

Add your own model when the catalogue does not hold what you need, and your equipment has a manufacturer and a name. Search first. If you type a name KitNDocs already holds, use the existing entry.

Add equipment from the catalogue

On the equipment list, press Add equipment.
Type a category, manufacturer, model name or part number.
Select the size you hold.
Type the marking and serial number if you have them.
Press Record equipment.

The catalogue reads category, manufacturer, model name and part number. It reads nothing else.

The marking and serial number are optional when you add equipment. The first certificate asks for a serial number later. Add it on the Details tab before you certify.

Filters and photos

Use the Category and Manufacturer filters to narrow the catalogue. The counts update as you filter, so a zero count shows a dead end before you choose it.

The Category filter starts at the top level. Press the arrow beside a category to show the categories inside it. Tick a category and the filter takes everything inside it. The count beside it includes all of that.

On a phone, press Filters to open the filter sheet.

Press the grid button to see photographs. Some models have no photograph, so the list is the default view.

New equipment carries one check

When you record equipment, KitNDocs adds one task: Check & confirm record correctness.

The task checks that the record matches the object in your hands. It has three steps:

Serial number matches.
Model and size match.
Markings match.

You cannot cancel this task. Do the check, then certify the equipment. The first certificate then says what you checked.

Equipment recorded before this task existed keeps its old behaviour.

Add a model

If no model matches, KitNDocs offers two ways forward. Add a model to the catalogue, or record the equipment with no model at all.

Add a model when your equipment has a manufacturer and a product name. Add a model to the catalogue does the same thing at any time.

Record the equipment with no model when it has neither. This adds nothing to the catalogue. See Recording equipment with no model.

KitNDocs staff set one sport for your organisation during setup. This narrows the shared catalogue, and you cannot change it in your settings.

Correct a model you added

Open the model page.
Select Correct this entry.
Change the wrong fields.
Select Save correction.

You can change the manufacturer, name, size, part number and category.

Your equipment stays attached to the model. The correction reaches every piece of equipment that names it.

Changing the category changes what that equipment is. KitNDocs tells you how many records the change reaches before you save it.

What you cannot change here

You cannot change a shared catalogue entry. It belongs to all operators. If it is wrong, tell us.

You cannot change a manufacturer from these pages. We maintain manufacturer logos, websites, countries and service-bulletin links for the shared catalogue.
