Nicknames and tags

You can add your own words to equipment in two ways.

A nickname is what you call one piece of equipment. Each piece can have one nickname.

A tag says what the equipment is for. Each piece can have many tags.

You can add a nickname when you add equipment.

To change it later:

To remove a nickname, clear the box and save.

A nickname is not the marking. The marking is written on the equipment. A nickname is only your own name for it.

A nickname is not the model name. The model name belongs to the manufacturer and applies to every piece of that model.

The equipment list shows the model name first. It shows the nickname below it, in quotation marks. Equipment with no nickname shows no line.

The list shows the tags below the nickname. The compact view hides the tags. The card view shows the nickname and hides the tags.

Choose an offered word to reuse an existing tag. Type a new word to make a new tag.

To remove a tag from equipment, select the cross beside it. The tag stays on any other equipment that uses it.

A skydiving operation starts with Student rig and AFF rig. A paragliding operation starts with no tags.

A tag decides nothing.

It does not say what equipment may hold, who may fly it, or what schedule applies to it.

It does not move a due date or change service state.

A maintenance schedule uses equipment categories, not tags. Tagging a rig Student rig adds no task.

A nickname also decides nothing. Search reads it and the equipment list shows it. Nothing else reads it.
